Train from Sorrento to Orvieto

How long does it take to travel by train from Sorrento to Orvieto? I know you have to transfer in Naples, but do you also need to change in Rome or is there a straight shot from Naples to Orvieto? Thanks once again!! Jim

Jim, there are almost 20 runs shown on the Trenitalia website from Napoli to Orvieto. 3 make the journey with no train change. These 3 are on Intercity trains. But, this journey takes 3.5 hours. Most of the other 17 runs require a change at Rome-Termini. A couple require a train change at Rome-Tiburtina. But, these runs take 2.5hrs because of the really fast high-speed from Naples to Rome. Many are non-stops. Also, the fares on the high-speed are higher than the Intercity train but, if you book up to 119 days out, you can get fares as low as the Intercity train. These Super Economy discounted tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangable. Your choice.

Jim, The total travel time from Sorrento to Orvieto will probably be close to five hours. Your journey will be along these lines..... > Sorrento to Napoli Centrale via Circumvesuviana (an hour or so) > Napoli Centrale to Orvieto via Trenitalia (usually 2H:40M with one change at Roma Termini - there are also a few direct trains on that route, but the travel time is 3H:28M - check the Trenitalia website for times and specific train details). If you can make the 09:00 departure from Naples, you'll be in Orvieto at 11:40. Happy travels!
