Train from Sorrento to Massa Carrara

We need to get from Sorrento to Massa Carrara. Which is the best option? train, bus, flight. We are looking to save some money but don't want to spend all day doing it.

Fastest way is Freccia train from Naples to Rome, then change to a Freccia train to Massa Centro. 4 hours and 20 minutes on the 12:30 departure at Napoli Centrale. You'll need to take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples beforehand, which is about an hour.
The Freccia portion appears to be about 54 per person euro with SuperEconomy tickets bought well in advance. Nonrefundable nonchangeable.

Besides the train option that Sam illustrated above, the only other viable option is renting a car in Sorrento and drive to Massa. The travel time would not be much less than the train however, if anything the trains will be a bit faster. You are looking at almost 7 hour travel time either way. The advantage of the car is the flexibility and the convenience (you are not bound by timetables and you don't have to load and unload luggage on and off 3 separate trains. The disadvantage is that driving for such distance is tiring too. There is no other viable way to get there. There are no airports in Massa or Sorrento, the closest are Pisa and Naples respectively, however the two airports are not connected by non stop flights. You would need a lay over somewhere in Europe (Rome, Paris, or Munich) and even contemplating the flight option is ridiculous.
