I will be staying at Agriturisomo Marciano in Sienna and leaving early 9/24 to Naples and on to Pompeii for an afternoon tour. The Trenitalia sight has a train leaving on a Monday (same day of the week I leave) at 6:29am arriving in Naples @11:10 am. The train heads north to FI.SMN (Florence) before going south. I thought it would be heading south where I could change in Rome for Naples. I would like to get to Pompeii as early as possible that day, before heading to Sorrento at night. Is this my only option or is there a better way?
Doug, if you are checking trenitalia for a September date, all options are probably not showing. Try putting in the same day of the week but pick a date in April.
According to the timetables on the German Rail site, you can take a bus from Siena to Chiusi, departing at 05:45 and arriving at 07:00. Then take an IC train from Chiusi to Roma Termini, departing at 07:10 and arriving at 08:24. Then take a EuroStar Italia train from Termini to Napoli Centrale, departing at 09:00 and arriving at 10:10.
Thank you Tim.
