We have a rental car but I was wondering if it would be easier to take the train? We have a tour booked at 8am in Florence and will be staying overnight. Last time I was in San Gimigano I did not notice a train station. Thanks

The train station is in Poggibonsi, a few miles away. You could park your car there and take a train into Florence. Probably want to take a 6 am train.

You can also take a bus from Poggibonsi station, which is faster than the train.

The bus to Florence from Poggibonsi does not look like it will get you there in time for your tour. The 6:06 Regionale will get to Florence at 7:21. The train does wind around and pass through Empoli. The Autostrada is direct into Florence from Poggibonsi, so you might take the car to Florence and park outside the ZTL and take a local bus or walk into central Florence.

Sam thank you I think that's what we will do. Its just easier due to the appointment for the tour so early AM.

There is a train station in Certaldo which has a large parking lot and plenty of trains to/from Florence St. Maria Novella. We have used this station several times and have found it to be very convenient.
