What is train travel like from Rome to Venice and how long?
The fastest trains take about 3:45 hours and stop along the way 5-6 times at Firenze S. M. Novella, Bologna Centrale, Ferrara, Padova, Ve. Mestre, and finally end at Venezia S. Lucia. The trains are quite comfortable. You might read these two articles for some pictures and train "info:" Riding Trains in Italy and 1st Class or 2nd Class tickets?
thanks Ron. I will study. I have lots of planning to do. Lynne
The train we took in Dec 2010 left Rome around 9ish, we arrived Venice around 12:30ish. The train was a full house, leaving on a Wednesday. We were one of the first people on our particular train car......So glad that we were because the overhead area for luggage was extremely narrow...maybe fitting a large brief case....Not necessarily a carry-on sized back pack. There was a space in the middle of the train on each side, that was to function as a larger luggage rack, bug enough to fit maybe 4 pieces of large luggage on each side. There were many people holding these gigantic suitcases in their laps for most of the trip. So bring slim luggage (smaller than carry-on sized luggage), or be prepared to be one of the first people on the train, if you want a ride that is comfortable.
