train from Rome to Venice

first time booking train tickets online, just want to make sure I'm doing it right. So I'm booking 4 tickets from Rome Termini to Venezia S. Lucia Sept 9 coming back Sept 10 (next day). is there a difference between Italiarail and Trenitalia? Should i book now or wait till i get to Rome on Sept 6.

thanks..

There are two train companies that do that route: Trenitalia.com and Italotreno.it. Italiarail is more of a consolidator - better to book direct. You don’t really need to book in advance - you could get discounted tickets that way, but then you’re committed to a particular time. If you miss it, there’s no refund. Up to you, though.

If you are staying Close to Roma Tiburtina station, depart from Roma Tiburtina and not from Roma Termini.
If you are staying on the mainland in Venice and not on the islands, enter Venezia Mestre as arrival station.
ItaliaRail is an US based re-seller, they don't run any train.
Trenitalia and Italotreno are two competing companies, the former runs more trains but the latter is often cheaper
