Train from Rome to Siena

Hello - I was wondering if you could help me with taking a train from Rome to Siena. First, since I am flying into Rome and not sure if the flight will be delayed should I even book a train ticket in advance? Secondly, I went onto Trenitalia.com to see my options and when I enter any of these choices: Roma to Siena, Roma Termini to Siena, Fiumicino Aeroporto to Siena I am getting no results. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

That is because you are putting in a date after June 10, when all of the train schedules will be adjusted. Now Trenitalia is showing Freccia trains after this date, but Regionali, which you must use to get to Siena, are not loaded into the schedule computers yet, and probably will not be until June 10. So look at the schedule next week. They probably will not change very much.

By your ticket when you land. I'll be doing that same route in September.

Most routes will take you Fast Train from Rome to Florence then Regionale train from Florence to Siena. Sure it's cheaper to book in advance say 19 euro vs say 57 euro day off (that's price of the train tomorrow). But if your flight is delayed your out 19 and have to buy another ticket. Just budget to buy your 1st ticket when you land but buy your other tickets 180 days out to save.

The cheaper option 19 euro is regionale train from Rome to Chiusi then Chiusi to Siena. Depending on your time there are some of these will be too early, they are also quicker at 2:57 mins.

By time you clear customs and get to Roma Termini from your morning flight, you'll probably be on a train between 11-:12:30. Heck if your packing light you can grab lunch in Rome before heading out to Siena. My favorite is Bonucci's place right outside the Cipro metro stop after the vatican.
