Train from Rome to Padova

Four of us will be traveling by train from Rome Termini to Padova on Sunday October 7. There appear to be many trains with no transfers; does anyone know if these trains stop in any towns along the way? Also, what is the best site to purchase tickets? There are several, but some indicate "Not Secure" in the URL; want to make sure I'm not purchasing fraudulent tickets.

Many thanks.

All the fast trains will stop at Rome Tiburtina, Florence, Bologna before getting to Padua.
What sites do you have issues with?
For Trenitalia, http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
For Italotreno, https://www.italotreno.it/en

Trenitalia shows "unsecure" on the home page for train queries, but goes to "secure" as soon as you go to the choice page. Italo shows "secure".

Whether a site shows "secure" or "unsecure" has nothing to do with whether the site is fraudulent or not.

Hi Laura. Trenitalia.com is the company that runs the trains - the info on that site is the most complete and accurate (select English in upper right; enter the date as 07-10-2018 and change the hour from the default to 7 or 8). You will see there are 1 to 3 direct trains per hour - click on the train and the website will show all intermediate stops. But if you want to get off at one of those stops, you need to buy two separate tickets. Enjoy your trip!

Note that the high-speed Freccia and Italo trains don't allow you to get off at one of the intermediate stops and then reboard another train later. If you want to stop in Florence or Bologna along the way, you'll need to buy separate tickets for each leg.

Laura,

One of the best sites to purchase tickets is www.trainline.eu as they sell tickets for both rail networks at the same prices. You'll need to register on the site first but once that's done the process is very user friendly.

Many of the trains make short stops along the way. You can see that on the train websites by looking at "intermediate stops". As mentioned above you won't be able to hop off/on as the high speed trains have compulsory reservations that are specific to train, date, and departure time. If you're caught without a valid reservation for the train you're on, you may face hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!
