Train from Rome to Naples

Do you have to prebook trains from Rome to Naples?

Nope !! There are probably 20 to 30 trains a day to Naples. On all trains except Regional trains you will need a seat reservation. No reservations required for Regional.

If you want the very nice fare discounts, you need to buy online in advance up to 120 days out from time of travel. You can get fares as low as 9Euro if you are willing to lock in on specific travel dates and times.

Can you just purchase tickets at the train station (Trentalia) probably spelled it wrong.

Yes you can. At Rome, you can even use the automatic ticket kiosks. The system will prompt you in English and will accept your Canadian credit card. The system will even make your seat assignments. Not a problem.

Our schedule is set and i want to lock in the best time of travel considering i have a child with me. Any advice? Is it good to buy in advance? Wont there be a problem? Thank much!!

My first time too. Have read many answers and it sounds like if you buy you train tickets ahead of time and your plane, etc is delayed you cannot exchange your tickets, you have to purchase new ones. I actually went onto the airport website and were very helpful. The train station is 30 minutes away and the Leonardo express goes there directly. They also sent me an airport map.
Hope this helps. If you read through the graffiti , you can usually find your answers.

I just bought my first ticket online and received the confirmation email with all the necessary information and codes within 90 seconds - print out the email and take it with you if you prebook to get a discount fare. But remember you'll be locked into that train/date/time/seat reservation number and if the plane is late, you'll have to buy another ticket. Otherwise there are so many trains from Rome to Naples that you don't have to worry about finding one. I never prebook a train ticket for the day I arrive - I worry about plane delays, security delays, etc., and I usually try to spend the first night (if not more) in my arrival city. Italian train fares are relatively inexpensive compared to the rest of Europe.

Sue, just to make sure you understand the train station is located in the airport and not 30 minutes away. It may take 30 minutes from your plane, through immigrations, etc., but the train station is a part of the airport complex. Easy to find. Just follow the signs and the flow and validate your ticket.

Sue , The airport station at FCO is where you take the Leonardo Express train TO Roma Termini . FROM Roma Termini you catch the train to Naples , as per Frank's last post . As a further suggestion , go to the " Ron in Rome " website ; the section on riding trains in Italy . You will obtain there a complete explanation of the nuts and bolts of the Italian rail services !
