I am looking for some information to tarevl from Rome to La Spezia. According to the TrenItalia website the first train from Rome to La Spezia is at 2:10pm.This is the ESCity. Is this the earliest train out from Rome? I can not believe that there are no morning trains.

Using the Trenitalia website and an arbitrary date of 26 November, I found about a dozen departures from Roma Termini to La Spezia Centrale. The train I'd probably choose departs at 07:58, arriving 11:51 (Time 3H:53M, no changes, ES City #9790, Fare listed was 41.30€ for 2nd class). The next departure is at 09:46, arriving 13:51.
Keep in mind the schedules and fares may be slightly different at the time you're travelling.

When using Trenitalia's website and after inputing the date you want to leave on it also asks for the hour when you want to leave. If you do not change the hour to early in the morning it will default to the hour that you are currently viewing the page. I.e. if I go online at noon to look at train schedules and don't set the time it will default to all trains leaving noon and later.
I hope you are using La Spezia as your gateway to Cinque Terra, because there ain't much there. If you are using it to get to cinque terra considering checking trains from Rome to Monterosso al Mare.

The Trenitalia website is being uploaded with new schedules, effective 12/13/2009. The final tranche of updates will be posted next week, so you should check back later for a complete listing of trains and fares (which are going up about 12%).
