Train from Rome to CT

I am thinking of changing our June 2008 itinerary and taking the train from Rome to CT for 2 nights. Renting a car in La Spezia (after CT) for a week in Tuscany then return car in Pisa airport to fly to Paris for 4 days. Any feedback on if this works well. What about returning car to Pisa airport is it to confusing on a Sat.? Grazie

Not sure if the private message I sent you went through. Here is the train we took from Rome. The train started in Naples and was heading up to Genoa. It was a nice senic ride along some of the coast. Be sure to reserve a 2nd class ticket for your seat. We did it at a local travel agent near our hotel in Rome that reserved train tickets.
