Train from Rome to Bolzano

Greetings,
I'm looking to travel from Rome to Bolzano next month (mid June) by train. We are a group of 4 people (2 adults and 2 teenagers). This is the first time my family and I are traveling to Italy from California. I'm seeing frequent train routes offered by Rail Europe: https://www.raileurope.com/en-us/destinations/trains-to-bolzano.

I'm wondering from more experienced travelers if I should book in advance - do the train routes sell out in the busy summer months? I would appreciate any advice you might have if you've traveled this route, or other possible train/transportation option to consider?

Thank you -luisa

Rail Europe is not a train company but rather a third party reseller. Of NO benefit to you.

Book your train tix on the official train site:
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html

Or get their easy to use app

You want to look for
Roma Termini to Bolzano-Bozen

You must use the Italian station names

Route will be a fast train from Roma Termini to Bologna Centrale
Change to a Eurocity train to Bozen-Bolzano
Trip will take 5h 21 min

If you know your dates are firm then purchasing in advance can be a savings. Special rates do sell out and all that will be left is the Base Rate
Base Rate can sell out
The EC train is similar to a fast train, with reserved seating
So you might as well buy now if your dates are available.

Booking ahead will get you a discounted price but the tix are not flexible. You have a reservation on a particular train.
