We’ll be flying into Rome (Fiumicini) and headed to Florence for a few nights. Is there a direct train from the airport in Rome?

At least one, but unless your timing is perfect, just take a connector train to Rome and a highspeed train to Florence. That way you will be on your way to Florence as soon as you get your luggage, since those are very frequent.

One direct only but many (one every 10 to 30 min on average) with one change at Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina (Rome’s main stations)

We didn’t book the flight yet but it seems like the timing would be tight for the direct train. So there’s a train from Rome airport to Rome’s main train station where we can get a high speed train to Florence?

There is a Leonardo Express train from FCO to Termini every 15 minutes.
There are at least 2 high speed Freccia train from Termini to Florence every hour, sometimes more.
