Train from Rome airport FCO to Civitavecchia

I want to take the train from airport FCO in Rome to Civitavecchia. I will be disembarking in Terminal 1 at FCO. I wanted to take a shuttle bus but we arrive too late.
How do I get to the train station from Terminal 1 at the airport? I have a slight walking disability and just wondering how easy or difficult it is to get to the train station. I can manage up to 1/2 kilometre max.
Thanks!

Just follow the signs. The signage is good and in English. The train station is part of the terminal but I don't know how far it would be from your gate. What time are you arriving? The bus actually runs later than the train. The last train is around 11.30pm. If walking is a problem, you might want to request a wheelchair. How much luggage will you have?

There is no direct train to Civit.... You need to take the Leonard Express to Termini and then the train from there to Civitavecchia. Allow an hour to Termini and another hour or so to Civitavecchia. At the Civitavecchia you are near the cruise port but it is a good mile so you can catch a taxi. A half kilometer is about 1/3 of a mile and that is not very far. Although Termini is flat it can still be some distance between trains. I could see you hitting your limit in a hurry. The only real alternative would be a hired car from the airport to Civit -- that could run a 100 to 150 euro - but that maybe you only choice if you walking is that limited.

Most cruise passengers have to board by 5PM, but of course every cruise is different. It makes a big difference if your destination is a hotel rather than the cruise port in Civitavecchia. Please note that very few taxis can legally enter the port and deposit you beside a ship. They have to take you to the small bus circle where the port's own free (regular, 49-passenger type) busses take you to the actual ship. Make sure you get on the right bus for your ship - not all busses go to all ships in port on a given day.

I don't have a disablility, but I found it a long walk from the Civitavecchia rail station to the cruise port, especially in the heat and with luggage. The city bus seems to make that trip about twice an hour, but it can be very crowded, even if you happen to sync up.

Most travel agents specifically warn their clients about this difficulty with the primary cruise port for one of the great cities of the world! We have paid as much as $140+- for a car service from a Rome hotel to the cruise port. I mention this not to horrify you with the cost, but because FCO is "part of the way" to Civitavecchia. It might not be silly to book a car service from FCO to the port, assuming you can handle the cost. That is, Google Maps shows a car trip from FCO to be 46 minutes. It shows a car trip from Rome to be 1 hr. 6 min.

Thank you for your speedy reply.
That is all very good information regarding accessing train at CFO and transfer at Termini. I was not aware we needed to transfer. We have not ruled out a private transfer. Still a month or so to decide.
You have been most helpful.

We won’t board ship for 2 days. Originally we were going to Paris for 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) but the Demonstrations were right next to our hotel. For that reason we will continue onward from Paris to Civitavecchia 2 days earlier than planned.

There's no reason to go to busy Termini to change for Civitavecchia. Take the regional train from FCO to the small easy-to-navigate Trastevere station where you can change to the regional train to Civitavecchia. The entire trip costs 11 euro, less than the cost of just the Leonardo Express ticket to Termini. You can check train schedules on the Trenitalia website.

Since you arrive 2 days before your cruise departs, you might consider staying in Rome and then going to Civitavecchia the day your cruise departs. In that case you would want to take the Leonado Express to Termini (or a taxi directly from FCO to your Rome hotel) and then a train from Termini to Civitavecchia (or from Trastevere if it's closer to your Rome hotel).

There is absolutely nothing to see or do in Civit... as it is a typical port town. Spend you two days in Rome. You can stay in a hotel in the Termini area that would be convenient for catching the train. Also a large number of city buses begin and end at Termini so it is convenient to catch buses to other parts of the city. There is roughly three trains an hour to Civit... so you can catch about any train to the port when you need to go.
