My family and I will be visiting the Pompeii area for a few days. We need to catch a flight from the airport in Naples around 12 noon. Should we stay near Pompeii, take the train to Naples, then either take another train to the airport or even a cab? Someone suggested getting a hotel near the Garibaldi train station the night before then take a cab to the airport. Any suggestions would be helpful
Grazie!
If you stay near the Pompei-Scavi stop, you are 36 minutes away from the Naples-Garabaldi train station. That's not bad. There's an ANM bus city bus shuttle between the train station and the airport. It runs every 10 minutes or so. CLICK HERE to see what I see. Scroll down for Napoli.
Paula,
There is a local train that runs between Pompeii and Naples. We stayed in Piazza Garibaldi for one night recently and didn't care for the area at all. There is contruction going on until about 10pm at night that was very loud and the area is just scarey. The hotel that we stayed at was fine though. It was Hotel Ideal. Getting to and from the train station with our luggage from the hotel was interesting as the traffic is crazy there.

We just left Pompeii Jun 2. With a noon flight, follow Larry's instruction. It avoids a hotel change, also the Garibaldi area (maybe safe) is definitely not pleasant. Let me know if you need other info on Pompeii itself.
Thank you! Do you have any suggestions for a hotel? We will need two rooms for 4 people.
We stayed at the Hotel Amleto, 90euro cash per room, free parking, decent breakfast. The lobby and elevator are nice. Air-conditioning can be noisy. We're 65+ so more sensitive with noise. You can walk to town square and scavi gate. Rooms are typical size. Our room on the top floor have direct access to roof-top garden.
Staff friendly and e-mail response prompt. Pompeii is not known for charming lodging so I'd say Amleto is above average. Check them out on tripadvisor.
