Train from Perugia to Naples then onto Sorrento

My husband and I will be in Perugia for the Euro Chocolate Fest in October. Our next destination will be Sorrento. When I go onto trenitalia I have trouble figuring out the right station in Perugia to go quickly and efficiently to Sorrento. We are hoping for a fast train, but I just can't seem to get it figured out. It sounds like once I get to Naples central station it will be easy to catch the local train to Sorrento from Naples central station. Is this correct?

Betty, the local train in Naples is called the Circumvesuviana and it has a separate ticketing system. When you get to Napoli Centrale station, follow signs for Circumvesuviana and buy your ticket from the agent or kiosk just before you go downstairs to the track. Trains run about every 30 minutes on shared tracks, make sure your train's final destination is Sorrento.

Betty,
You can get a fast train (Frecciarossa) from Rome to Naples, but from Perugia to Rome, you are on regionale or intercity trains. Based on current schedules, you can leave Perugia at 9:13, transfer in Foligno for a train to Rome, then in Rome you will catch a Frecciarossa, arriving in Naples at 14:10. The cost is €52.40 in second class before discounts. Depending on when you travel, discounts may be available for the Frecciarossa segment. My experience is that you need to book the Freccia segment separately from the regionale in order to have the discounts displayed. So you book Perugia to Rome, then Rome to Naples separately. Use the main Perugia station, i.e., not Universita' or Silvertrini. We did this trip from Spello last December. It's a long train day, but we like trains, so it was fine.

Thanks for so much helpful info. It seems that for the best price I should book the fast train that goes from Rome to Naples. Should I wait on buying the regional tickets? The info about travel from Naples to Sorrento is that travel will be quite easy. How will I get to the Sorrento Hilton? I will be using reward points for this part of my adventure. Thanks so much
