Train from Palermo to Agrigento?

Is it possible to get to Agrigento from Palermo or Catania without renting a car. Obviously wanting to see the Valley of the Temples. Hotel recommendations for party of 6 - three couples.

Train takes about 2 hours from Palermo. The archeological zone is huge, there's also a good museum. If you are going during the summer it can be very hot with little shade, take water and a hat.

Thank you to both of you. We will o in either late April or Mid October. Any hotel recommendations? Is it hilly, or relatively flat? I've gotten older and have one bad knee. The website says there's about a one mile walk on the tour and I can handle that if it's not all steps/hills.

I'm asking for both myself and husband (we will probably rent a car) and also another friend who is not willing to drive. I see the tours will even pick up at hotels.

Since you don't need parking, you could stay anywhere in the city or nearer the temples. There is a city bus that goes to the temples from the train station, stops near the entrance. Many hotels are up flights of narrow stairs in the city, make sure you get one on the main street or in the train station area, which is flat.

The archeological zone is fairly flat, but as with most Greek temples, there's an incline path to get to the base of the temple and sometimes a few steps as well. But nothing steep.

At the time of year you are traveling, you should have good weather.

We stayed at the Demetra Resort in Agrigento last month. There were 3 couples in our group. Not sure how it qualifies as a resort--no pool or other resort amenities--it has a sister hotel 10 minutes away with a pool that is available and it was beautiful. I would stay there again. Nice rooms, kind of ranch style with patios and palm trees. Free parking. Some tour groups use it but it was quiet. Dinner available was OK but for the night after touring the Valley of the Temples, it hit the spot. And no steps whatsoever.

I asked a 'dual question' with or without cars and I got answers to BOTH! Thanks everyone. My husband and I will probably will be traveling by car, but on a separate trip, my friends will be taking public transportation (train) and they don't want to drive. I posted the question to avoid putting two threads here. Again, Thank you everyone Husband and I are taking this trip in April/May with car with car, friends are going in October.without car. Sorry for the confusion, but as always, GREAT advice.

I give advice re the 'other side' of Sicily, where I've been many times, but this will be my first trip to the Western area.
