Train from Naples to Sorrento (and return)

Hi - I'm planning to take the Frecciarossa from Rome to Naples but getting from Naples to Sorrento (and back 4 days later) has me in a quandary. I'm traveling in late June with my 11 yo daughter. I was set on taking the Campania Express to have a little AC and not have to worry about finding a seat. Although I've read some posts where it sounds like seats are not guaranteed even on Campania Express when booking in advance??

I understand the timing is not as good on the tourist train but I plan to time our Frecciarossa travel around that. Does that train typically run on time?

When we leave from Sorrento we're going to up to Florence. I thought maybe I should buy the more expensive Frecciarossa train refundable tickets but will that even help if the train is extremely late or is canceled due to strike? I plan to give about 30 min-1 hour leeway....hoping that will be sufficient.

Is the main train station in Naples on the Campania Express the Napoli Port Nolan/Garibaldi?

Lastly, are both trains called the Circumvesuviana in the train station?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Even if they sold more tickets than the available seats, not getting a seat on the Campania Express would be impossible: since it's so expensive it mostly runs half empty.

Napoli Piazza Garibaldi station is the underground stop under Napoli Centrale, Porta Nolana station is 1 km away.

If you are so worried about strikes go from Sorrento to Napoli Piazza Garibaldi before 9 am.

The Circumvesuviana runs both the regular and the tourists' train.

Trenitalia is not responsible for strikes and delays of competing companies, get a discounted ticket on-line or a full price one at the counter. For sure nobody pays for a full price ticket in advance. Do not forget to look up also Italotreno's fares and schedules befor buying.

The Campania Express will let you select a seat online.
Naples Garibaldi is connected to Naples Centrale.
When your train arrives from Rome in Naples Centrale look for the Circumvesuviana signs which lead down stairs.
both the Campania Express and the Circumvesuviana are down stairs.

We just returned from Naples and Sorrento. About the Campania Express -- leaving from Naples Garibaldi is great -- seats are available and the train is not crowded. However, the return trip from Sorrento to Naples is a different story. First, the Campania Express is really just the same Circumvesuviana, just a slightly nicer train. Second, the trip from Sorrento was jam packed -- we're talking sardines in a train car! The train is open to anyone with a Circumvesuviana ticket -- it doesn't need to be a Campania Express ticket. The only consolation is that the conductors let the people with the Campania Express tickets board first, but you'll have to fight your way through the crush of waiting to get on the train. If you think you have a reserved seat for the return trip, even if marked on your online ticket, think again. It's first come, first served. So the trip out to Sorrento from Naples should be fine, but the return -- extremely crowded and you'll need to fight to get on the train.
