Have a 12:35 p.m. flight from Rome (FCO). Has anyone taken the fast train from Naples early in the a.m. to get to Rome airport with time for security & etc.? Many thanks
If you leave Naples at 06:50, you'll arrive at Termini at 08:00, which should give you enough time to catch the 08:22 Leonardo Express to FCO which arrives at 08:53. To save time, buy both tickets in Naples.
If you take the 07:05 train, you won't get to Rome in time to catch the 08:22 express. The next one leaves at 08:52 and arrives at 09:23.
The fast train from Naples takes about 1.5 hours, the express train from the termini in Rome takes a half hour but comes every half hour so if you miss one you can end up waiting half an hour for the next. You should plan on at least 2.5 hours on the trains. If you're flying home you need to be at the airport at least 2.5-3 hours before your flight. That will put you at the airport at 9:30 so you should start traveling no later than 7am at the absolute latest.

Your options are the Eurostar AV "Frecciarossa" departing from Naples Centrale at 6:50 a.m. OR at 7:05 a.m. Travel time to Roma Termini is 70 minutes. One-way fare (second class) is 44 Euros. Add another 14 Euros and 32 minutes travel time from Roma Termini to FCO Airport. Factor in the time to connect between trains (allow at least 20 minutes). Remember that you must "punch" your Roma Termini/Roma Aeroporto ticket (with unreserved seats) in the little yellow stamping machine by the rail track BEFORE boarding the SECOND train (the one to FCO Airport). You are not required to punch your Naples/Rome Eurostar AV ticket (which is valid only on the date, time and train reflected on the ticket), but may do so anyway without consequence.
Thanks for the info. Will do that rather than fly for $$$$$. TC
