One other point to note is that if you get the cheapest Super Economy tickets, these are non-refundable and non-changeable once booked, so be absolutely sure when hit the "Buy" button. Also, the tickets will be specific to one train, date and departure time and can only be used on the one train listed on the ticket.

Thanks, Vernon. I'll attempt to purchase 2 tickets on the fast train from Naples to Rome 4 months in advance. And I appreciate your warning about being sure that this is the train and the time that we want.

And the 120 days is not exact. Sometimes trenitalia is slow posting schedules so don't be disappointed if you get the "No solution" response. Try the next day, and the next day.
