is the train ride very scenic and how do we get to the train station from mxp airport?
I wouldn't call it particularly scenic. Take the Malpensa Express train from the airport to Milano Centrale and switch trains there. Are you going to Venice proper or Venice airport (VCE).
The train runs through one of the most industrialized areas of Italy. It gets better and better when you come closer to Venice.
You can take either a bus (cheaper) or the www.malpensaexpress.it/en/ train (no traffic jams). You want the train that goes to Milano Centrale station, not to Cadorna.
There are trains at the Malpensa airport that will take you to Milano Centrale; from there, you transfer to a Freccia train directly to Venezia Santa Lucia (last stop). You can purchase up to 120 days ahead for a significant savings but your ticket will only be valid for the train you booked, if you miss it you will have to buy a new ticket. The trip is about 3.5 hours.
The route is not particularly scenic, but it's Italy, so, how bad can that be?
The mountains may be visible far in the distance out the window if you sit on the left side, between Milano and Venezia.
However, as indicated in the first reply, you can get to Venice by train, both Venezia Santa Lucia on the Grand Canal and Venezia Mestre in an industrial and commercial area, but you can't get to the VCE airport by train. It is only boat, taxi (water or land), or bus.
Thank you all!
