Train from Monterosso to Milan

I'm looking to schedule the time for leaving Monterosso going to Milan on Sunday May 7. I'm trying to book tickets to see the Last Supper but the earliest train doesn't leave till around 11am arriving 2pm. This doesn't give me much time to check into our hotel (located near train station) and get to central Milan in time for any tour. I found a tour that starts at 4pm but is this possible to be there in time?
Also, is there a recommended site to use to book seeing the Last Supper? Is it better to pay extra for a guided tour? Thank you!

Did you look on http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en (the official website)?
Looks like 10:55, arriving 13:50 is the earliest connection. Not on sale yet (much too early), bvut the current fare is €9.90.
Depending on where in Milan the tour starts, arriving at Milano Centrale at 13:50 and getting to a location in central Milan by 16:00 should not be a problem, but your hotel check-in could be.
How about travelling the previous evening (Sunday 6th May), last train departs 18:55, arrive 21:50.

There are earlier trains to Milan, but they involve Regionale trains, which will not be loaded into the schedules until just before the December 11 system wide schedule change. Some of the IC trains aren't loaded yet either.

If you look at the schedule for next Sunday, you will see that there are direct Intercity trains at 5:17 and 6:54 that take about 3 hours to get to Milan. There is also a Regionale at 7:33 that connects at Genova Piazza Principe to an Intercity train to Milan that takes 3 hours and 22 minutes. There usually is no big change in the schedules after December 10, maybe just time adjustments.

Long story short, wait until next month to see the full schedules. You can't buy tickets for May 7 until next year anyway.

Thanks Chris & Sam! Sam, you have a great point....waiting will show a fuller schedule. I was not wanting to purchase tickets but only to get an idea on train times. Thought it was strange there were no early morning trains. Feel better now, so thanks Sam, for reminding me to just check again in a few months.

Linda,

If you check the schedules for the next Sunday in the current week, that will provide some idea of your choices in May. The schedules are updated twice yearly, but they don't often change much. I normally use one of the direct Intercity trains (reservations compulsory) as the travel time is only about 3 hours.

There are currently direct departures shown for Monterosso to Milano Centrale at 05:17, 06:54, 10:54, 12:54 and 14:54 (among others). Base fare (2nd class) is currently listed at €28.50 PP and Super Economy at €12.90 PP. If you'd rather have some flexibility with the departure time, you can easily buy tickets at the Monterosso station (they have both Kiosks as well as a full service ticket office).

Just got back from Milan.

We booked tickets for the Last Supper through the official web site
www.cenacolovinciano.net .
Check the website to see what day tickets for your date will go on sale. The tickets sell out very fast - we live in New York, and I woke up during the night to book tickets at 10 AM Milan time and was able to get tickets. But, by a few hours later, tickets were all sold out. It's also probably that May is busier than November so tickets might sell out even sooner, so I would advise booking tickets at 9 AM Milan time.
We didn't pay extra for a guided tour, and we didn't feel it was necessary. Just read information before you go in. You will only be in the room for 15 minutes. Be there 20 minutes beforehand to pick up your tickets.
