Train from Milan to Venice: enough time?

We are arriving to Malpensa airport at 9:05am on an international flight (the trip is in April). Planning to take a train from Milano Centrale to Venezia S. Lucia as soon as we arrive. Is it reasonable to book in advance a 12:45pm train from Milano Centrale to Venezia considering 9:05am expected arrival to Malpensa? Should we also book train/bus tickes from Malpensa to Milano Centrale in advance (what is the earliest reasonable time, considering passport control, and only carry-on luggage for 9:05 arrival?) or is this something we can do on the spot? Thank you!

Given the delays that many airlines are now having, I would just wait and get tickets upon arrival. It might cost a little more, but the savings will probably not be worth the stress and not knowing if you'll make you bus/train connections.

Hi. No reason to buy airport to Centrale train ticket now; they run every half hour, take 1 hour, 13 Euro, no discount to buy in advance. Super economy fare Centrale to Venice if you book now is likely 19.90 Euros; but this would be of no value if you miss train. Most you will pay if you wait until day of is 49 Euros. If your plane is on time, good chance you could make the 12:45, but may be rushed. You have 3 reasonable choices:
- book the 12:45 and view it as a throwaway if your plane is delayed.
- book the 13:45, good chance you will make it, plan on a lunch / walk at Centrale
- wait and book when you get there and pay 49.
