Want to leave early morning from Milan and arrive late afternoon in Trieste. Worried about luggage which is a roller bag and small day pack, and travel to and from the train station in Venice. Any advice?

What are you worried about, specifically?
You need to get your luggage onto the train (perhaps three narrow steps) and put it in the overhead rack or in the bins at the ends of the car (some trains have one in the middle as well), or in the space between back-to-back seats.
You can check your luggage at the train station in Venezia.

Checking the luggage would solve my problem. Didn't realize there was an option for checking it. Thanks.
