Train from Milan to Paris

Just wondering if anyone has heard an update about the repairs to the line from Milan to Paris. I thought I read that direct trains to and from Paris and Milan were going to start in 2025, but can't seem to find any timeline or projected restoration of service online.

French have promised Italian authorities that the repairs will be completed by March 2025. The first step of the work, securing the area of the landslide, has been completed; works on actually rebuilding the severed railway line have started at the beginning of this month. But frankly, I would not believe too seriously to any expected date.

Thanks for the udpate! Haven't been able to find out much of what's happening except for the general statement that they think first quarter 2025. Thanks again!

This summer I had to travele through Swizterland to get to Paris from Milan, and was hoping this coming May that I could connect directly. It might be possible.

Yeah, they have been saying first quarter. I will be relieved when the direct trains come back into service. This has been an enormous project to effect the necessary repairs.

As a reminder, once trains are able to operate along the line again, both SNCF and Trenitalia offer service. So you can choose between the two for price and times. So check Trainline instead of SNCF when looking for tickets

Hi Kim! Yes, thanks for the heads up and reminder. I vaguely remembered that you could buy from either, but the reminder is really good. The article says that tickets will likely start going on sale in Jan/Feb, so I'll keep a look out. I kind of feel like it's looking for tickets for the last supper....

Through train service re-starts on 1 April, and tickets are now on sale on the Trenitalia website for their twice daily service.

SNCF is starting its service on March 31. Tickets should be for sale now.
