Train from Milan to Cinque Terre

Is the train direct or do we change trains in Genoa. Also has anyone taken the train from Cinque terre to the port in Civitavecchia?

Look at trenitalia.com
It's the official train info in Italy.
EuroStar might go dirrectly to CT, but I am not sure.

we just took the train direct from Milano to LaSpezia, although it did stop in Monterossa. We bought the tickets the night before we departed from the train station in Milano for the 8:05 a.m. train. I would caution taking the later train that requires a transfer at Genova. We were not able to book on line with Trenitalia, as they were very difficult to work with, requiring copies of drivers license prior to allowing us to purchase, and then the fax was not accepted! Luckily we could book at the station the night before. Have fun!

There are several IC and R trains from Milan to Monterosso with no train changes. The journey takes 3hrs. There are some runs that require a train change at Genoa.

But that's if you take the train to Monterosso. You have not identified which of the 5 towns you are traveling to. Monterosso has more trains stopping there than any of the other 5 towns. Riomaggiore is a close second. However, from Milan to Vernazza, will require 1-2 train changes even though Vernazza is simply 3 minutes away. Fewer trains stop at Vernazza. Even less at Manarola and Corniglia. So it's important for us to know which town so that we can give you accurate information. Also, all of this can be found on www.trenitalia.com.

Yes there are several trains from the CT to Civitavecchia. Again, however, we could give you much more accurate information if we know which town you are departing from. CLICK HERE to see several trains that make this run. Click Next to see more. Note that all of the Eurostars and IC trains that you see on the schedule originate in Genoa and that none stop at any of the 5 CT towns. You will have to take a local from your CT town to La Spezia Centrale and change trains there.

Thanks everyone, guess I wasn't very clear. What we're hoping to do is from Milan go to Lake Como Varenna a few days. Then take the train to Vernazza CT for 3 night then head to the port of Civitavecchia. Is there a good way to do this?
thanks

My post above is still valid from Milan to Vernazza and then to Civitavecchia. For Lake Como, you will take a local Regionale train from Milan Centrale to most likely Varenna-Esino. Again, this is a local train. No seat reservations permitted. It is suggested that you buy a roundtrip ticket in Milan as the train only stops in Varenna for 1 minute. After Lake Como, you will return to Milan where you can pick up your train to Vernazza.
