Are there high speed trains from Milano IT to Bourg St. Maurice FR to reduce 9 hour travel time?
Why does the DB train site not allow bookings on a part of the trip that requires compulsory reservation? Do I go ahead and book it and hope it makes a reservation?
What train site would you suggest I use. We are traveling Friday March 9.

Bourg St Maurice is in the high Alps and on the other side of the Alps from Milan. I don't care how fast the trains go, it is a long way around to get between them. You might benefit by looking at a map.
The route through France is currently blocked by a landslide that happened several months ago and they are still rebuilding the rail line. The only other rail route is through Switzerland, I see a route that goes Milano Centrale to Brig to Geneva to Chambery to Bourg-St Maurice, in 8 hours.
I do see one train running though France, but it departs in the afternoon, still takes 8 1/2 hours and get you there just before 11 pm. It requires a replacement bus between Oulx and St Jean de Maurienne
Where exactly do you want to go? A French ski resort? Tell us and we can suggest another way.
PS DB website shows the 8 hour route (departing 7:20 am) and gives a price of 137 EUR for 2nd class semiflexible, and 144.60 EUR 1st class nonflexible.
