What’s the easy way to get from Milan airport to Lucca
From Milan Malpensa, you'd take a T-1 train into the center city.
At the Milan train station, you'd catch a 2 hour train to Florence (Firenza Santa Maria Novella).
Then you'd catch the LaSpezia train and get off at Pisa Centrale (1.25 hrs.)
Connect to the next train to Lucca--30 minutes.
In other words, it's difficult but doable to get from Milan Airport to Lucca. It's going to take most of the day, however.
First off, which Milan airport? Malpensa or Linate?
Malpensa is a fair ways outside of Milan and you will need to get into downtown
Milan via bus or train and then xfer to a train to get to Lucca.
Linate is much closer to the city and you have more options, including public
transportation, to get to the train stations.
Use trainline.com to explore train options. You don't provide dates of travel so
we can't help you there. Keep in mind there are multiple train stations in Milan
and they go to to different places.
Lucca is far enough away from Milan that I suspect a private transfer will be pretty
expensive, but you can use findtransfers.com to get quotes on a car service. If
you go the train route, you have multiple connections which may or may not be
suitable for you.
Hello, and welcome to the Forum!
Google Maps estimates this is a 3:30 hour drive so it would definitely set you back some some serious money to hire a private driver. For reference a cab from Milan MXP into Milan is >100e by itself and while a private driver is going to run you less than a cab you effectively have to pay them for both ways because the chances of them having a reverse drive is very small.
Trenitalia - the Italian state owned train company - has trains running about 4 hours from Milano Centrale to Lucca. So once you're in Milan proper you should add at least 4 hours to the schedule for that.
Hope that helps,

Use the official Trenitalia website so you see all of your options (Trainline is a third party reseller)

There are a few combinations that require just one connection in Florence
Fast train from Milano Centrale to Firenze SM Novella then a regional to Lucca
Use the Italian station names
If going to Lucca from Florence there is no reason to go to Pisa first or to take a train headed to La Spezia. Many trains from Florence to Lucca go through Pistoia > Montecatini on the Florence - Viareggio railway line and require no intermediate changes at Pisa.
Follow Christine’s advice and check your options on the Trenitalia website.
Your departing station is MALPENSA AEROPORTO (T1) your arrival station is LUCCA.
I did Milan to Lucca last September and changed trains in Viareggio not Pisa. Lots of options in the Trenitalia app— some journeys have 1 change, others have 2 or more changes. All things being equal, I usually minimize the number of changes, just for my own ease. Enjoy your visit!
