does anyone know how long a train ride is from lucern to florence? we then plan on catching the bus to siena.

You can use the Swiss railmsite, www.rail.ch tom figure this out. If you tar the 8:18 am direct train from Luzern to Milan, and then the 12:20 Es to Florence, you will arrive there at 14:05. You can save quite a bit (50 CHf per ticket) by buying the Luzern to Milan ticket about 2 months in advance onnrail.ch. Then buy your Milan to Florence ticket on Trenitalia to get the mini fare on that.
