We will be staying in Lucca but outside the city walls and plan to travel two days back and forth to Florence. We have been advised it is very difficult to park in Florence so plan to take the train. Does anyone have experience parking all day at the Lucca train station? Is parking there a challenge? Any tips appreciated!!
Where is your lodging in relation to the train station? Does your lodging provide parking? If you use directions in Google Maps to chart a route from your lodging to the train station, fpdoes it suggest a transit option? If you query Google Maps for parking in Lucca, you'll see a number of locations near the train station.
I stayed inside the walls in Lucca many years ago without a car. Sometimes it was faster to take than bus to Florence than the train.
That said, Google shows a paid lot a 2 minute walk from the station, pay by credit card. Ask your hotel.
There is a large parking area near the station in Lucca, but of course is a metered parking. If you have a car, I would travel to Florence by car, as it is faster than the train, then I would park at the Villa Costanza park area near the highway exit and take a tram to city center.
