Is it possible to take a train from LaSpezia to Milan Airport in time to make a 7:35pm flight back to the US? In looking at the Trenitalia website, I don't see any morning trains heading there, the earliest I see is a 1:50 departure, which would be too tight. Am I missing something? Surely there are morning trains. I haven't booked flights yet but it looks like I'll be flying out of Linate. On that note, my second question would be, is there a train from Milan Central station to Linate?
On what date are you looking? There are morning trains. The website is kind of screwed up with the time selected. It seems to be using US time instead of local Italian time. Check out the DBahn site. It is a 4 hour train ride, give or take some minutes.
When searching the Trenitalia site, you need to put in the earliest time of day you want to travel. [Oops, not working. However, if you search for the day before you want to go, and scroll down, it will start showing you the next day, i.e., the day you actually want, with the morning trains.]. Hope that was clearer than mud.
Have you seen the post by Lola about the trouble with the time zones on the Trenitalia website? It explains why you don’t see any morning trains. You have to search the previous day.
I can try to find it so you can see the explanation.
It will be a Tuesday in May 2024. I need to figure out train schedules before booking flights. I realize that I can't book this early but hopefully the schedules won't change very much.
Here you go.
Apparently it doesn’t matter what time you enter for your search, it switches to current local time in Italy, which will be late afternoon or evening if you are in the US or Canada.
The Trenitalia app doesn’t have that time zone issue
I just searched a Tuesday in Sept
There are trains almost every hour from 6:38 on
From Milano Centrale to Linate it’s a tram
- Milan has three airports. There are trains only to Malpensa airport. Linate is served by cabs, buses, vans and by the new Metro line #4, but it does not stop at Milano Centrale station
- On trenitalia.com/en.html , enter any day of travel before December 11 , keep on scrolling or click "next" till you see the morning trains. If you are flying home from Linate airport, put "Milano Centrale" in the TO field on trenitalia.com
- Exit Milan station, turn left and walk to where all buses stop. Get on the first one departing to Linate, pay the driver.
- The train schedules won't change and anyway on December 12, 2023 you'll see the schedules of trains running till June 11.
