Train from Genoa to Monterosso

Will be traveling to Cinque Terre next Spring and am looking for advice on catching the train from Genoa, namely:

  • Which train station in Genoa services Cinque Terre, specifically Monterosso al Mare?
  • What's the best way to get from the Genoa airport to the train station? Shuttle bus? Taxi?
  • Are advance train tickets required/recommended? Or just show up and grab the next train?

Different trains leave from different stations, depending on time of day. On the Trenitalia website, just select Genova (tutte le Stattioni). The program will show which station each train departs from.

Advance tickets are generally not recommended, since you can never be sure that you may be delayed in arriving, or in leaving the airport. Tickets are inexpensive- just buy using the Trenitalia app when leaving the airport, or from a machine or ticket booth at the train station.

It looks like the Genova Piazza Principe (Prince Square) station is closer to the airport than the Genova Nervi station.

Excellent - thank you! I was just on the Trenitalia website and, yes, appear to be numerous options that could easily be booked using the app on the bus ride from the airport. Thanks for confirming!

You can actually book a ticket from the airport to Monterosso on Trenitalia. Select GENOVA AEROPORTO C. COLOMBO as start, and you will get a ticket that includes the shuttle to the "Genova Sestri Ponente Aeroporto" railway station, from where you can take a train direct, or with one change, to Monterosso.

Book that using the Trenitalia App, or from a ticket machine in arrivals.

Note: Information on how to get to/from an airport you will always find on the airport website:
