Train from Florence to Venice

We will be leaving Hotel Torre Guelfa in Florence on September 29th and taking a train to Venice staying at Hotel Galleria in Dorsoduro. Which is the best train to take between these two places?

You will take the train from Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence to Santa Lucia Station in Venice.
It’s a 15 minute walk or a 10 minute taxi ride to the station in Florence.

In Venice, it looks like you would walk out of the station , then take Vaporetto No. 1 heading left away down the Grand Canal to the Accademia stop, then a short walk to your hotel.
If you buy the train tickets in advance, they may be cheaper if you have a while to go before travel.
Only buy from Trenitalia or Italo, not a third party.
There are apps for both, and have a look also at www.seat61.com for everything you need to know about Italian trains.
The train takes about two and a quarter hours with either train service.
The trains are very easy to use!

Let’s start with the train. There are two train companies in Italy with high-speed trains between Florence and Venice. You can buy tickets directly on the website of either one.

Italo’s website is a bit more user-friendly, and we like their trains.

The state run company is Trenitalia. You must spell the station names in Izlian on this site.

On either site, for Venice the station is Venice (or Venezia) Santa Lucia, NOT Mestre.

For Florence (Firenze on Trenitalia) you will start at Santa Maria Novella, or SML.

One other comment.....

If you decide to take the Vaporetto to your Venice hotel, you'll need to be sure to validate your ticket prior to boarding. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines! This website provides all the details - https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-vaporetto-fares.htm .

As you'll be hauling luggage, I'd suggest using a taxi from Hotel Torre Guelfa to Firenze SMN station. If you'll be making an early departure, it would be a good idea to pre-arrange that with the hotel on the day prior to travel.

To reach Hotel Galleria, travel by Vaporetto would probably be the easiest method. You might want to contact the hotel for specific directions.

Individual vaporetto tickets are very expensive--€9.50 each. If you will be using the vaporetti very much, a pass may save you money: €25 for 24 hours, €35 for 48 hours, €45 for 72 hours or €65 for 168 hours (7 days).

the hotel in Venice is just feet from the Accademia bridge and vaporetto stop, on the main, quite wide, rio terra heading towards Zattere. You can practically see it from the vaporetto stop, certainly from the bridge.

Vaporetto from the station (Ferrovia) is easy and beautiful. Get the hourly pass - much cheaper than single tickets real quick. Validate every time you use it by tapping on the reader as you board the floating platform.

Both the number 1 and number 2 vaporetto lines connect Ferrovia and Accademia. Good choice of location. I can't comment on the specific hotel because I haven't stayed there.
