Train from Florence to Orvieto

Confusion reigns....having just a couple of days to see area south of Florence, does anyone know how long a train ride it is from Florence to Orvieto or Perugio(sp)? Or would you recommend any other small towns/villages in that area?

Orvieto is much closer to Rome and Florence. But the most user-friendly website for find train times is Deutsche Bahn (although you can't buy tickets from the site). My favorite town outside of Florence is Assisi, which is a 1.5 or 2 hour train ride, as I recall. And there are lots of other delightful towns. You might want to check some guidebooks.

Orvieto is on the way from Florence to Rome. It's about an hour north of Rome by train. Normally, most of the 55 high-speeds a day from Florence to Rome are non-stops and whiz by Orvieto. Thus, you will need to take a slightly slower (and less expensive) train to Orvieto. The journey time is about 2.25hrs. Perugia, as well as Assisi are more Eastern into Umbria. It's a 2.5hr.s train journey to those wonderfull hilltowns from Florence. It's another 2.5hrs from these wonderful hilltowns to Rome.
