We are leaving for our first trip to italy on sunday and can hardly stand it!!! Am trying to arrange our train travel before leaving and am having a challenge with our leg from Florence to Monterosso on Sunday, June 3rd. There only seems to be trains after 1500 on that day. Do the trains not run in the mornings on a Sunday? I had hoped to get to the CT much earlier in the day. Any suggestions?
I was wondering the same thing. I was trying to find train schedules from Cinque Terre to Rome on Sun, June 17th and they are making me go through Milan first. I tried to go through Pisa or Florence, but trains were not scheduled for the morning. It must be because it is Sunday. Can anyone help us with this issue?
Thanks.
You must have experienced a glitch - I know, what are the chances of a Trenitalia glitch ;-) For June 3, I found 12 before 15:00. It looks like the only savings you'd recognize by purchasing the advance sales of MINI fares would be 5,00€, and that's only for the 1-hour portion of travel between Pisa and Monterosso. Full fare looks like just less than 24,00€, though you could pay as little as 11,00€ but nearly double your travel time. I'd pay for the faster route. I'd buy tickets upon arrival at Firenze SMN.
Same for you, Patti! Trenitalia may have been loading the summer schedules, or it simply wasn't working...;-) I found 4 trains b/t 7am and 11am (didn't look earlier), 3 of which transfer at either Pisa or Viareggio, but the one I'd take doesn't transfer at all (goes through Pisa and Viareggio) and costs less than the others. Seems like a no-brainer... For both of you - to see all prices, in addition to your actual travel dates...check same day of the week (Thursday, for instance) no more than one week out from now; that will give you the prices for the regional trains, too.
Thanks for all your advice on this topic. Yes, it would be totally shocking if there was a glitch with the Trenitalia site! I think I will take the advice and wait until we get there so the regional schedules will be up. One more question; The Monterosso train station is simply called Monterosso, right?
Laura, I just checked out the www. bahn.com for June 3 Florence to Monterosso. No problem, get train every hours. Trenitalia site have some problem. Right, the station name for Monterosso al Mare is Monterosso. The other site you can use to check out the schedule is www.raileurope.com Have a good trip.
Laura, The website appears to be working again. I found numerous departures on 3 June. The easiest trip appears to be a departure from Firenze SMN at 10:28, arriving Monterosso at 12:54 (time 2H:26M, one change at Pisa Centrale, reservations may be compulsory for the second leg). The prices currently listed are €7.10 for the first segment (Regionale - DON'T forget to validate!) and either €9.00 or €10.50 for the second segment. The savings is only €1.50 for the Mini fare, so I wouldn't worry about pre-booking the ticket. Buy the ticket when you arrive in Italy. Where are you staying in Monterosso? I'm still trying to finalize one night for September (haven't found anything yet, but I'm on the waiting list at Hotel Pasquale). Happy travels!
We are staying at the Albergo Marina hotel when in Monterosso. It looks adorable and they have been wonderful to work with. I think we are going to wish we had more than 2 days in the CT.
Laura, "I think we are going to wish we had more than 2 days in the CT." I spent 4-5 nights in Monterosso last year and the first time I had a look from my balcony, I was wishing I had booked more time. I'm hoping to spend at least that much time on the next visit.
