Train from Florence to Monterossa & Orvieto train station

I was trying to book a train from Florence to Monterossa but all the connections were just 5 minutes apart. Does anyone know if the trains run frequently enough that we can just kind of wing it or is it best to book in advance? Also, wondering if anyone knows if there is luggage storage at the Orvieto train station? We will be dropping our car in Orvieto and then taking train to Rome. Would like to leave luggage somewhere and walk around Orvieto a little bit. Thanks for any advice!

No need to buy a train ticket from Florence to Monterosso because the line is operated by regional trains. The only time you should buy tickets in advance is when taking fast trains that require a reservation.
In Orvieto there is an area where you can store your bags up to 6p. Email [email protected] to learn more.

Jores, not all trains trains from Florence to Monterosso via La Spezia are Regionale.

If you pick "Firenze Campo di Marte" or "Firenze (tutte le stazioni)" as departure station, you'll see there is a train with reserved seats to La Spezia at 7:54 AM

Trenitalia does not sell impossible connections. But note that if you miss a Regionale for whatever reason, you can freely take the next Regionale to your destination. There are no reserved seats on these local trains, so they can't sell out and tickets are not train-specific.

If you want to buy in advance any train ticket and you want more time to transfer, simply make two separate purchases. Just pick a later train. As I explained above It's quite pointless when the second train is a regionale, but you can do it.
