Train from Florence to Milan

Post an R/S Europe My Way tour, we'd like to take a day trip from Florence to Milan. We'd like to try the new train company ITALO. These trains do not arrive nor depart from Milano Centralla, but use Porto Garibaldi or Rogoredo Staions. The schedule and cost seems the same. Could someone recommend either station as more safe and/or convenient to Milan tourist areas. Thanks in advance for the information.

The standard 2nd class fare from Firenze S. M. Novella to Milano Centrale on a high-speed Trenitalia train is €50.00. Booked well in advance on the Trenitalia site, you can get a discount fare as low as €9.00. The standard 2nd class fare for an Italo train is €55.00. Booked well in advance on the Italo site, you can get a discount fare as low as €24.00. I haven't been to Milan so I don't know which station is closest to the main tourist areas, but I'm guessing it's Milano Centrale.

Not familiar with either of those stations locations. Suggestion using goggle maps. They can find anything.

We just took the Florence to Milan Central train. If the cost is the same, that's what I would do. Milan Central is an easy metro ride to just about anything you might want to see. But if you really want to try the new company, I don't see why not unless you need to stash luggage in which case I'd go to Central because I know they store luggage. Both the Italo stations are on the metro. Porto Garibaldi looks as central as Central Station, but Rogoredo is a ways out and only connected to one metro line (though it is the Duomo line). Go to Porto Garibaldi as it'll save you about 8 metro stops over Rogoredo.

David, My suggestion would be to use the Porta Garibaldi station, as it has easy Metro access and is only one stop away from Milano Centrale. While Rogoredo is also on a Metro line, it's considerably farther from the tourist areas. You didn't specify which "tourist areas" you're planning to visit, but I'm assuming these include the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele. Those are easily reachable via Metro, although you'll have to change lines once either at Milano Centrale or Milano Cadorna (I'd probably use Cadorna as it's a smaller station). You might want to have a look in the posh La Rinascente stores, which are right across from the Duomo. As I recall, there's a great Food Court on the top floor. If you tour the roof of the Duomo, you'll be looking right at the stores. Happy travels!

Thanks for the fine suggestions Tim, Frank, Jenny ( Go Bearcats), and Ken. Sure we'll have a fine visit to Milan and, hopefully, no train strikes.
