Hello! Will be visiting Florence in the fall and hope to take the train from SMN train station to LaSpezia, then onto final destination of Vernazza. Any insight would be truly welcome. Thank you
The fast, more expensive direct "Freccia" trains to La Spezia Centrale depart 3 times a day from Firenze CdM station.
If you are not in a hurry, you can take one of the slower (and cheaper) direct Regionale trains from SMN. There is no reserved seating on Regionale trains, so they can't sell out.
In both cases get a through ticket from Florence to Vernazza on the official site, so that your connections will be protected.

Firenze Campo di Marte
What is your date of travel ? It is helpful to include that info
Thanks for the excellent reply, truly appreciated, may I ask if I have a Cinque Terre Train card, would it be worth it to just book from SMN to LaSpezia? or go with booking through to Vernazza? Thanks again!
I suppose you could
You don’t even have to book either in advance as Regional trains can’t sell out and price never changes
Regionals from SM Novella run about every 30 min, usually change in Pisa
Are you planning to buy tickets for the train online or locally at the station? It's important to know which type of train you'll be using on each leg of your journey.
Many of the trains on that route are Regionale trains and if you buy paper tickets at the station either from the ticket office or a Kiosk, these must be validated (time & date stamped) in the machines prior to boarding the train.. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines collected on the spot. Some of the trips require a change at Pisa Centrale, so you'll have to check the Trenitallia website for your travel date to determine the specifics of each of the departures. There's also a change at La Spezia, either at Centrale or Migliarina stations.
The Cinque Terre Treno MS Card gives you unlimited second-class travel on regional trains between Levanto, the five villages, and La Spezia, plus access to local park buses and the Via dell'Amore, as well as a few extras such as free station toilets (normally €1), local park shuttle buses, and Wi-Fi access at park hotspots.
