Train from Citivecchia to Rome

Is it very difficult to get to right platform with luggage-from the entrance to the station. Are their stairs that you would have to push the luggage up or is there a elevator or escalator to help with this. Anyone have this info or experience with this?

I think we have been through Citiv.. about twelve times and four cruises. It is a small station with only a couple of platforms but it is all stairs. I don't remember seeing an elevator wasn't looking either and absolutely no escalator. Even stairs to get from the street level to the station level unless you want a longer walk through the traffic ramp to the station level. Buy an open second class ticket at any other train station in Italy. When the cruise ships unload the lines at the single ticket or even a couple of tickets machines is very, very long. It is basically a commuter run into Rome taking 45 mins to an 1 hr 15 depend on which train you catch. Be sure to validate the ticket in the little yellow box on the track side of the station wall. It is not obvious if the platform is crowded which it will be.

Does anyone know if taking the train from Cit. to Rome is worth it considering we have luggage? Also any one stay at Hotel Maikol in Rome or can recommend budget hotel for 1 night.

Your choice is the train or an expensive taxi in the range of 125E. If you cannot easily handle your luggage, then your options are limited. Of course, you can limit your luggage also. We always take the train.

Randy, We took the train from Rome to Citivecchia in April and it was easy. We stayed at the Hotel Mascagni which is walking distance to the train station and across from the St. Regis in the Republica area that we really liked. There are some stairs but if you don't have too much luggage than it is doable. My husband took mine down the stairs and the rest of the walk was level and not too far from where you catch the bus to the ship. We each had one rolling 25 suitcase and a backpack on our backs. If you have a lot of luggage that you cannot handle then the taxi is the way to go. We paid about 9 euros each for the train and the taxi was about 140 euros. Have a fun trip.
