Train from Cinque to Florence

Hi, we are staying in Cinque July 9-12. When we leave, we will take the train to Florence, but we want to stop off in Pisa for a quick tour.

Should we purchase a ticket from CT straight to Firenze? I know there is a stop in Pisa, but are we allowed to stay a while? Is there a time schedule we have to follow if we pick that ticket? Or is it best to buy two separate tickets ?
Thank you

No hop on hop off trains!

You’ll need to purchase 2 separate tickets

That works out OK with 2 separate tickets because you have to change trains in Pisa. Anyway. The first train is an IC train from either Levanto or Monterosso ( same train stops at both). The ticket is only good on that train, and you have reserved seats.

From Pisa to Firenze is a regional train, no reserved seats. It would be simplest to just buy that at the station when you are ready to leave Pisa. Then you can be flexible with your time in Pisa.

The only ticket that would allow a little hop on and off is a Regionale tickets. These are open tickets, no reserve seats, and, once validated you have a four hour window to get on and off any Regionale headed in the correct direction. ALL other trains require a seat reservation so therefore, your ticket for these trains is limited to that specific train -- no on and off.
