Can we head north from Vernazza and exit the CT or do we have to go back south first and connect in La Spezia? Thanks!
Gary, here's a website that will give you train schedules: http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en When you get the train schedules, click on the right arrow on the left side of the train listing you want and you will get a list of that particular train's stops. From what I could see, there are trains that go thru La Spezia and others that go thru Monterosso.
Gary,
There are many trains from Vernazza to Milan but you will have to change trains. The change may be in Rapallo or Levanto etc. Check the schedules at trenitalia.com-don't put in a date more than 30 days from now-schedules don't change much so this will give you an idea of times.
Gary,
I am doing the opposite of you in July. We are traveling from Milan to the CT. I found several fast trains that went from Milan through to Monterosso (the North-most town in the CT). We will be eating lunch there and then taking the smaller local train from Monterosso to Vernazza where we will be staying.
Gary, Check the trenitalia website. There are numerous trains that will suit your needs, and no, you can go to milan through Genoa. I would advise browsing the Trenitalia website, and making copies of each day and the connections you want. When you go to buy tickets, just highlight the train you want and present it to the ticket agent. VEry easy, and no hassle. Caio, Jeff
Didn't even think about printing and highlighting schedules - that's a great idea! I know we spent way too much time in the information line last trip. Thanks!
Yes you can head north out of Vernazza. We did this last July after our stay in Vernazza. We took a regionale train to Levanto and then in Levanto got on an InterCity train to Milano Centrale. You can also catch a connecting train in Monterrosso I believe. I can't remember offhand but check the trenitalia's train schedule as all the details are there. It was very easy to do. Buon Viaggio!
We made this journey two weeks ago except we started in Corniglia (next town south of Vernazza). We took the regional train to Sestri Levante, then to Genoa, and a third train from Genoa to Milano. Total travel time was about three hours if I remember correctly.
As Jeff stated above print out and highlight from trenitalia's website times that would work for you. Did this last summer after reading this on the helpline and it was extremely helpful. If you "check details by selection" on trenitalia's website once you have your destination pulled up you will be able to see where you have to change trains. I wanted to avoid connecting trains as much as possible so only having to change in Levanto was really nice. Could just relax once on the InterCity train.
