Train from Chiusi to either Salerno or Sorrento?

This will be our first trip to Italy and plan to using trains/bus for transportation. After a week in Tuscany, we will be spending 4 days in Positano and I was plannng to take the train from Chiusi to Salerno and then arrange transport from there. Does this make sense?

You can book tickets from Chiusi to Salerno directly on the trenitalia site. If you would rather go to Sorrento you can book all but the last leg which you would use the Circumvesuviana for. You can just walk up and buy that part of the ticket once in Naples. I don't know that either way is better than the other but there are others who are more familiar with that area than I am. donna

You don't say when you are going but if after April you should be able to get a ferry from Salerno to Positano. http://www.coopsantandrea.com/it/servizidilinea/servizi_b.asp?id=4 And this company but they have yet to post their schedules. http://www.alicost.it/content/?id=6 Otherwise bus from Salerno to Amalfi and change to a bus for Positano. Swings and roundabouts but I might be tempted to do the Salerno route. Buses from Sorrento to Positano usually fill up to standing room only, if you can get on them at all, before 10 am. Similarly buses to from Amalfi to Positano start getting really busy from about mid afternoon. Or you could arrange a private transfer car service from Salerno railway station, plenty of companies in the area.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think i will take the train to salerno and go from there. I like the idea of arranging a car to take us to Positano. there will be 4 in the group so a car may be easier than the bus.
