I am finding that train travel on Sunday, Oct. 23rd, from Assisi to Roseto degli Abruzzi ( Montepagano) is very limited. Is bus service from Assisi to Montepagano a good alternative?

The Sena bus line has once-a-day service between Santa Maria degli Angeli and Roseto degli Abruzzi. The link I've given you indicates that the bus will run on Sunday, October 23, but I have to tell you that I'm nervous about it. There's typically very little Sunday bus service to and from small towns in Italy.
First you'd need to get from Assisi to S.M.d.A, which is a short bus ride away, WSW of Assisi. I found this bus information on the city of Assisi's web page. There's no indication that the schedule varies by day of the week, which is surprising except that Assisi is a huge pilgrimage site, and I'm nearly certain there's an important religious site at S.M.d.A.
