I think I blew it! I went on to the Trenitalia site to purchase tickets. My first transaction Venice to Florence Santa Novella station went fine. Then I purchased Florence to Rome Termini tickets. However I didn't notice until after I printed my tickets that it's Florence Rifredi to Rome Termini. I guess the tickets are not changeabe since they are mini tickets or am I wrong there? So my question is; how far is the Rifredi station from Santa Novella? Our apartment is close to Santa Novella.

Gonzy, the Rifredi station is one stop away from the Florence-Santa Maria Novella train station. You will need to pay the 2E or so to get there from Florence-SMN but you'll be just fine.

5 minutes by train, frequently. Or about 5km by car, or about 2 km as the crow flies. Have a look at google maps to see it, just north of SMN (Its Santa Maria Novella, not santa Novella). Have a look at trenitalia or the Bahn for train times.

Noted, thanks Nigel. The person I'm renting the apartment from called the station Santa Novella, so I thought that's what it was. Looks like I'll take a taxi to the train station.
