Train Disruption Near Varenna?

I'm really confused about what is happening on the Trenord line from Tirano to Varenna. Between construction and a landslide, I don't know what to expect. I'll be traveling from Tirano to Varenna on August 1. I understand there is construction on the line near Colico.

  1. Can I get the train from Tirano to Colico and then I must take the substitute bus? Where does that bus bridge end up? Are there stops along the way, one of which being Varenna?
  2. I also was under the impression that there was a problem from Bellano to Lierna, Varenna being in between those two spots, and that we had to get off the train in Bellano to catch a bus or a boat to Varenna. The tourism office in Varenna and Trenord posted about a bus bridge and a boat as options for that portion of the route. I've tried really hard to understand it all, but.... Is this detour still necessary?

Roberto da Firenze and Lachera were helpful in commenting on another person's post regarding Varenna-Esino to Milan. Perhaps either of you can shed light on what I should expect during the Tirano to Varenna train trip. Many thanks!

the railway line is being renovated, so the section between Sondrio and Tirano is now closed till September 10th. Additionally, the section between Colico and Sondrio will be closed August 6th to 27th. There will be substitute bus services for the closed sections.

Did you enter Tirano and Varenna-Esino either on www.trenord.it/en or on www.trenitalia.com/en.html ? Picking August 1 as day of travel?

The bus / train icons and the "where to change" columns on both trenord.it and trenitalia.com seem quite obvious. First a bus, then a train. 5 minutes change in Sondrio or somewhere else.

Both sites seem happy to sell you a through combo ticket from Tirano to Varenna-Esino.

The problem related to the landslide was solved on June 11, nobody is giving info about a problem in the past.
