Anybody outthere traveled by train from Catnia to Brindisi in the day time by train? It looks like we have to make Four connections to do it. That doesn't seem right. Tom
I know you asked about day trains, but my choice would be the night train from Catania to Napoli, a regional train from Napoli to Caserta, and a EuroStar Italia train from Caserta to Brindisi. See the timetables at www.bahn.de. Click on "Internat. Guests" for English. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.
Tom, have you checked out the cheap flights? The train trip could be long and drawn out. I know, we took the Naples to Messina, and it took one heck of a long time (but absolutley beautiful!)
Brindisi is a great airport. We have used Catania for real cheap flights to Naples. I know that Air One does flights from Catania to Bari, and it is a quick trip by train to Brindisi (better yet, you can pick up your car in Brindisi) We just flew them BDS to Rome, and it was cheaper than the train!
We have also flown Alpi Eagles. You can fly to Venice, and then to Brindisi for less than $150.
