I’m going to Italy on a cruise and will arrive April 15 in Civitavecchia. I want to go directly to Venice. Should I buy my tickets ahead of time? Does it save money? Will there be plenty of room?
TIA
Should I buy my tickets ahead of time? Does it save money?
Yes, it will save money, at least for the leg from Rome to Venice (Most routes show a regional train to Rome, then Fast train from there)
The problem is, you really do not know exactly when you will disembark, usually a lengthy process. I assume this is the end of the cruise? That you are not trying to daytrip?
I would not worry about the Civitavecchia to Rome leg, no advantage in buying ahead, the regional trains cannot sell out, simply head to the train station and catch the first train to Roma Termini. From there, I would probably just pay full price for the next train, or buy a ticket ahead that allows changes or the ability to take a later train.
The fast trains can sell out, but I doubt so in April (except Easter Weekend), but there are so many, you will be fine.
