Train Check-In procedure for Leonardo and out of Rome Termini

When purchasing a train ticket from FCO to Rome Termini on the Leonardo express, with my paper ticket from a machine, do I have to validate it or can I just hop on the train?

My train ticket from Rome Termini to Venice is on the app. Similar question, is there any kind of check-in or can I just find my coach & seat then ride? I didn't see anything on the app to "check in".

Thanks

If it's a generic ticket, then it should be validated which is easy to do. One does not have to validate if a ticket is assigned to a specific seat in a specific coach.

Ok. Validate the Leonardo, but not needed for coach assigned (since I have it on app).

Thanks !

it doesn't matter about the app - you have to validate a regionale ticket. Paper or app. Leonardo - yes.

You do not have to validate a faster train - Intercities or Freccia - for which you have a mandatory seat reservation, regardless if it is paper or app.

It is the type of train, not the ticket media that matters.

last fall we were at FCO and purchased a paper ticket from the machine. It had a QR code that we scanned at a turnstile in order to get to the train, which apparently checked us in. There was no machine to validate it (I looked around).

At every other Trenitalia station we visited there were no barriers to getting to the train and Regionale tickets needed to be validated. Incidentally if you have the app and data service and have entered your credit card into the app already then when you arrive at FCO you can use the app to buy the Leonardo tickets instead of using the machine.

Ah thank you. I didn't see anything about a validation stand for FCO either. Turn style makes sense.

Thanks again

At Rome Termini there are barriers that require one to scan their ticket to get to the platforms.
