Hi, my daughters and I have the option of flying from Catania to Milan or taking the train. I think the train would be more memorable. The journey takes 12-20 hours (depending on route) and will most likely be overnight.
I've done overnight train trips in the US. The most comfortable (and secure) was a private cabin (I think that's called a "sleeper") with fold-down beds and an ensuite bathroom. Second place would be a bunk room, last would be normal bus-style seats.
I'd love to book a sleeper for Catania->Milan but I don't see how do to it. The train sites I've visited don't seem to have seating/cabin arrangements as an option.
So my questions are:
1) Is it even possible to get a train from Catania to Milan with a sleeper for most (or ideally all) of the trip?
2) If so, how do you find the prices for it, and create a booking?
3) What are your thoughts about the various options for getting from Catania to Milan via train, in terms of comfort and security?
Thanks!
