I'm looking for transportation options for four adults between the following: Rome and Siena; Siena and the Cinque Terre (Monterosso) with a stop in Pisa; and Cinque Terre to Florence. Is the train the best option for travel or are there other options (bus)?
We also need transportation from Florence (downtown area) to the airport at 4 a.m. I was quoted a price of $182 canadian (middle of the night, few options etc. Any suggestions?
Ken,
Siena to cinque terre there is no need to go to Florence you can just take the train.
At 0400 the Florence airport bus won't be running, try a taxi http://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/EN/index.php?percorso=contents&jk=18&curr=0
The quote for the ride to the airport at 4 a.m. is outrageous ($182). Where did you get that quote? It should be a fixed rate of 20-25 Euro. You can have your hotel arrange a taxi ride for you at that hour (I've done it in Rome), and it should not cost any more.
Ken, my wife and I just took a cab (Sunday)from the train station area to the airport (Florence). Our hotel set it up for us and it was 30 Euros. I can't imagine how a price of $182 popped up. Also, it was like a 15 minute trip. Check the airport website for the actual time it opens up. I think it is 5:00 AM.
